Born December 21, 1984 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Vaughn has been competing in men’s figure skating since 1994 when he started skating with the Lloydminster club. After moving to Edmonton in 1995, he quickly started to gain attention from coaches and skating clubs across western Canada.
Growing up on a small acreage outside of Lloydminster has instilled Vaughn with a sense of hard work and a love of motor vehicles, both fast and furious.
Other than the skating rink, he’s known to be found on the race track and often switches vehicles to find something faster or more powerful. This has translated to almost all aspects of his professional career – Vaughn has always wanted to go faster and jump higher which has earned him the most loyal of fans across Canada and the world.
From a young age, Vaughn loved sport because it brought out his competitive nature. Growing up, hockey was the most popular sport to play in Vaughn’s community, so it was on the ice that he harnessed his competitive spirit.
When not competing and training for skating events or racing a fast car, Vaughn enjoys playing guitar and often writes his own music (though he rarely plays it for anyone.)
Vaughn has had the pleasure of working with some of Canada’s premier figure skating coaches and choreographers. In his last few years of skating he was coached by Olympic gold medalist Scott Davis and choreographed by four time World Champion Kurt Browning.
A member of the Skate Canada Alberta NWT/ Nunavut Skating section, Vaughn has achieved the following accomplishments throughout his career:
After an amazing experience in Vancouver at the 2010 Olympics (where he placed 23rd), Vaughn announced his retirement from the world of competitive skating on June 25, 2010.
Since his retirement, Vaughn has been active in the athletic community as a motivational speaker and inspiration for young athletes looking to obtain their goals. Speaking at these events and helping young athletes realize their potential has become Vaughn’s newest passion and the ability to give back to the community that supported him for so long has become a great reward.
Currently Vaughn is realizing one his dreams and sailing around the world aboard one of Royal Caribbean’s ships – The Mariner of the Seas. Performing daily ice shows to delight and wow the crowds aboard the ship while seeing some of the world’s most beautiful spots.
While aboard Vaughn will be doing updates via this website and developing a motivational series aimed at helping young people realize their dreams – whether in sports or another vocation.
